The OS (Windows, OX S, Linux, etc.) just marks the space to be available for new data and eventually the ?deleted? data will get overwritten. However if you want to make sure you data is truly deleted, you need a utility designed to erase data by overwriting it with random patterns of ones and zeros. There are many such utilities available, some free, some are included within of a suite of utilities. In any case, be sure you use one of these deletion utilities in order to insure you data has been completely overwritten and thus deleted."
Sadeghi continues, "Can corporations rely on employees to completely remove sensistive data recommended by Craig Crossman? Probably not. This means that companies will have to test every system before it leaves the premises. Depending on the number of computer systems being sent for recycling this procedure could take weeks."
