None of has a crystal ball that can show us how to stop environmental pollution. Wouldn't our planet be a happier place if we did? Unfortunately, stopping polluton is much harder than you might think. The environment is something that exerts and effect on each one of us, and each one of us affects the environment in turn. Certainly things we could do would be to discontinue the use of toxic cleaning products in our home, step up our efforts to recycle, and do any number of other things that would have a positive effect on the plant, But can we count on huge corporations such as DuPont and ConAgra to do the same?
Even though the environmental cleanup movement seems to most people, hopeless, we can never give up. The way to stop environmental pollution is to start on a small scale by working with these large corporations and to discover solutions that will stop environmental pollution.
A documentary video, readily found on the Internet called the "The Corporation", was created to try and put modern corporations into perspective using the pshyhological model of the corporations having a "personality". In the early part of the movie, a group of protestors converge on the doorstep of the CEO of Shell Oil Company one of the largest oil companies in the world. In other such scenarios, this scene would be a classic story of futility that the environmentalista have been facing for years. The scene would be that of the CEO shouting at the protestors, calling them crazy and has them forcefully removed from the property or even arrested. In this film, the outcome is very different. The CEO and his wife have invited the protestors in and have lunch together.
During that lunch, both the CEO as well as the protestors had a serious discussion about the pressing issues that are facing the earth, especially the problem of how environmental pollution can be stopped. There was one thing they all found quite surprising. Obviously there was a definite disparity in the status of the two groups. The protestors were, for the most part, young and struggling and the CEO was well off as are most large corporation CEO's. The group noticed that there was one common thread between them, and that was that both groups seriously cared about Earth's future. They both believed that something needed to be done about the environmental pollution problem The interesting fact that came to light during the discussion was that neither side knew how they could stop pollution, despite the fact that one group was dedicated to stopping the problem, and the CEO was the head of a huge company that was accused of causing the problem.
The movie goes on to explore this interesting paradox. But what the movie took as a starting point, we should take as our goal. The most productive route to stopping the environmental pollution problem isn't to work unilaterally and tobe on one side of the fence or the other. Protestors and corporate heads need to work together to find ways to make changes that can make a difference. There are hundreds if not thousands of innovative ideas that work. One workable program that can be implemented is to set up a charity event to help environmental pollution cleanup and secure funding for the project from a large corporation. Another project is to involve your local CEO neighbors in a proposal to implement sustainable projects that can benefit the local neighborhood. While taking the initiative to make small changes to the way we live is a highly positive way to help solve the environmental problem, we shouldn't go it alone. Since the environment affects each one of us, the solution to the environmental pollution problem should come from each one of us as well. It is hoped that we can realize that this team effort is critical to the survival of the planet comes in time to save the planet.
